Loungewear became an ever-expanding category for Mud Pie. I was involved in sourcing an excellent manufacturer in Southern India and China and helped grow the relationship and product to increase the basics and loungewear collection. Each season I helped research trends and developed innovative construction details that helped form a solid foundation for this category.

Project Highlight: Jogger Set

The Concept

Create the technical details such as raw edge hems and an elastic waistband with an adjustable tie. Include functional pockets on both the joggers and hoodie. Correctly fit each style and develop sizing that aligns with our sizing standards across other categories and grading standards. My team and I met with tie-dye manufacturers overseas to understand the dying process and develop new supplier relationships.

The Challenges

Challenges with these styles ranged from solving fit issues to achieving a perfect fabric quality. The neckline was stretching out because of the raw edge so I had to correct and fit the neckline appropriately. Specs were examined to determine the desired length of the jogger pants and determine the overall fit of the sweatshirt. We have included special hang tangs for all tie-dye apparel to call out that no two pieces are the same due to the tie-dye technique's nature. In many tie-dye styles, we worked closely with each factory to develop a tolerance range for each tie-dye to achieve cohesive results for each piece. We integrated the tolerance range into our quality control and inspection reports.

The Results

The quality chosen is a soft cotton blend. The material holds the colors from the tie-dyes and dip dyes well. Quality control did an excellent job monitoring production and avoiding any production issues with the tie-dye process. The fit is well executed and fit cohesively within our tops and bottoms categories, and works well across all size ranges.
